committing to peace consolidation in burundi through the implementation of sport and play programs report on provincial workshops on basic sport management/october 2009 classé dans : liens — 1 décembre, 2009 @ 5:58 by willem vriend nif november 2009 general information in the provinces makamba, gitega and ngozi a one-day workshop has been organised for representatives of various sport clubs, youth centres, centres for people with a disability, referees and pe teachers. the workshop focused on doing a needs analysis per club and come up with 3 priority areas that the club wants to focus on in terms of development of their club. from the beginning nif consultant wilem vriend and director of mass sport of the mysc, laurent nzeyimana, have worked together developing the concept, facilitating and evaluating the workshop. right to play has been very supportive, assisting in logistical arrangements. in this report recommendations are written as well as all details about the workshop. recommendations specialised workshops (follow up after the needs analysis workshops done) · mysc and nif to analyse workshop results ngozi, makamba and gitega together . (step 1: workshop results docs translated into english, step 2: summarise results and come up with a few main priorities). · based upon the main priorities coming out of the analysis, mysc should make action plan on what is next. specialist workshops in which areas? in cooperation with nif the specialist workshops need to be designed, planned, implemented and specialists (facilitators, trainers) need to be found (within burundi preferably). needs analysis workshops · mysc to suggest ideal 3 year plan for implementation of these workshops (how many, which workshops, where, costs) based upon draft document ´planning basic workshops´. · development of manuals (in french, english, kirundi) for the various workshops based upon draft documents (´provincial workshop – guidelines for faciltators´) and existing manuals. · implement provincial workshops, club workshops, facilitation workshops and eventually a lead facilitator workshop. objective is to identify needs of the clubs and to assist them in making a realistic action plan. another objective is to train burundians in running these workshops. · strategy from mysc on how to continue with these workshops without nif funding. this strategy should be worked out by the end of 2010! documents - atelier sur la gestion du sport a ngozi (workshop results ngozi) – french - atelier sur la gestion du sport a makamba (workshop results makamba) – french - atelier sur la gestion du sport a gitega (workshop results gitega) – french - atelier du management du sport – programma (1 page workshop program) – english - provincial workshop – guidelines for facilitators – english - questionnaire needs analysis – english and french - planning basic sport management workshops in burundi – english the process steps 1. selection & reading through manuals (sport leadership & management) 2. preparation of workshop outline, incl. guidelines for facilitators in french 3. preparation meetings with mysc, rtp 4. meetings with facilitators in provinces (short training on use of workshop model) & with socio cultural advisors (invitation to participants, workshop venue) 5. final preparations for workshops 6. workshops (1st day workshop; 2 nd day informal meetings/site visits with participants) 7. process workshop information and results; translation french-english 8. reports (to mysc, to nif, to rtp) preparation meetings: - fidèle sonon and his team – right to play (regarding logistics, i.e. transport and material for workshops) - laurent nzeyimana – mysc (regarding logistics & human resources, i.e. accommodation and co-facilitators). - socio cultural advisors (when doing site visits in gitega, makamba and ngozi in order to prepare the workshops, i.e. inviting participants, arranging venue and catering). key points: - where & when: ngozi - date: tuesday 20 th of october 2 makamba - date: friday 23 rd of october 2009 gitega - date: monday 26 th of october 2009 note: provinces have been selected by mysc (after meeting between laurent & the minister). why these provinces? here some structures can be found; there are more clubs (and different sportcodes) than in other provinces. good to start here. - for whom : representatives youth centres, pe teachers, sport leaders from various sport clubs, sport leaders from centres for people with a disability, social advisors - how many : maximum 30 participants per province - by whom : the facilitators of the workshop will be: · willem vriend (nif) · laurent nzeyimana (mysc) · gérald ntibarekerwa – pe teacher (for workshop in ngozi only) · samuel niyubahwe – pe teacher (for workshop in makamba only) · desiré nahimana– pe teacher (for workshop in gitega only) note: pe teacher mentioned above acted as co-facilitators, merely learning the model of the workshop and assisting in asking questions during groupwork. note: tharcisse harerimana (executive secretary of noc du burundi) has been approached. back up. maybe better for specialist courses in sport management on higher level. - which venue : social advisors have made arrangements (hall & catering) - duration : 1-day workshop (approximately 6 hours) note: the workshops lasted one day because participants represented their club and after identifying main needs and writing down some actions they can not continue since they will have to go back to their respective club to make the action plan together with the other members. (so this workshop is called a ‘provincial workshop’, while doing a workshop only with one club is a ‘club workshop’ which is linked exactly to the ‘evening for the future’ – concept. site visits were made the next day to some participants. - what : content of sport leader course made by willem. based upon ‘evening for the future’ – model. objectives are to have: · thorough situation analysis (of various organisations represented) · specific action plans (per organisation) note: once this information is known, follow up courses can be given targeting the specific needs identified during this workshop. (it does not make sense to just give a sport leader / management course without knowing the present competencies of sport leaders and present challenges and needs of their organisation. - how : participative, based upon ‘evening for the future’ – model - translation doc : translator: nestor niyonsaba – tel. 79973210 – niyonsabanestor@yahoo.fr nestor has translated the questionnaire, the workshop programme. workshops program 1. welcome & introduction 2. getting to know each other 3. expectations & objectives & model (club, core & specialist network) 4. rules of the game 5. statement 1: “my club is well prepared for the future” 6. question: what works well in the club? - in small groups / individual 7. question: what can be improved in the club? - in small groups / individual 8. question: what do we wish to develop in the club? - in small groups / individual 9. action plan - in small groups / individual 10. questionnaire - in small groups / individual 11. what next? - follow up from ministry of youth, sport and culture 12. closure results from all participants (from all sport structures present) we have received a questionnaire with specific information about their structure. part of the information is 3 chosen objectives (actions) that have priority per sport structure. note: for specific information about participants, the structures they represent and their action plans, see the specific reports per workshop. note: the completed questionnaires are filed in the office of laurent, director of mass sport of the ministry of youth, sport & culture. evaluation the concept of the 1-day ‘provincial workshop’ works very well. the difficulty was to make objectives from the chosen actions (in the action plan). the other difficulty for participants was to work out
